I’ve Got Those Low Down Houseboy Blues Again

Filed under: India — Chris @ 6:15 pm

If your houseboy should spend the weekend watching your TV with his friends, or if he should take naps in your bed when you are not around, it is not worth your effort to complain about it. It is not worth it to explain the subtleties of your unease to the accomodations manager, who will ignore them anyway and scold the boy for some vaguely related misdeed. It is not worth it when the boy will act abashed for about five minutes and then continue to do exactly the same things over and over again. Not. Worth. It. At all.

  1. I don’t understand the problems with you people and your houseboy. What are the subtleties of your complaints? It sounds like he’s explicitly annoying and neglectful of his houseboyly duties. I think you need to employ some valuable lessons from the dog whisperer and cut out this nonsense.

    PS: (insert sexual innuendo here)
PPS: I need a houseboy to clean my bathroom. Seriously.

  2. The language and culture barriers make it very easy for the houseboy to patiently listen to our complaints then go ahead and do whatever-the-hell he wants anyway. He is annoying and neglectful, but it turns out that it is not worth the effort to try to correct him. It is certainly not worth the guilt of firing him. The thing is, who gives a shit if he watches the TV, really? It’s annoying. But “houseboy not being annoying” is not within the realms of the possible.
